biotecnologia

Biotechnology

Definition
Biotechnology can be defined as the set of techniques and methods that are used by living things in industrial production processes, goods and services, relying on knowledge areas that include basic science (molecular biology, microbiology, cell biology Genetics, embryology, etc..) applied science (immunological techniques, chemical and biochemical) and other technologies (computers, robotics and process control).

reference area
Biotechnology is closely related to Science, Technology and Society (CTS), since its development depends on the elucidation of the main tenets of biology, which require expertise and scientific excellence, with a theme that involves questioning scientific, cultural and religious, with results that affect significantly the livelihood of the society.

Historical Context
we can think of biotechnology as a new science, but it is possible to recognize the past, the use of technology and biology when analyzed the production of fermented foodstuffs (bread and drinks) and products using techniques of acquisition and natural applications. With the expansion of trade, coupled with the aspirations of modernity and the gradual accumulation of knowledge, goods and services have emerged more determined in their elaborations. However, it was only in the twentieth century who used the word "biotechnology", when the Hungarian engineer Karl Ereky used the term to describe his experiment, which aimed at large-scale production of pigs fed beets (grown with micro-organisms) , and ended up defining it as all lines of research that involve the generation of products from raw materials receiving the addition of living materials.

Exemplification
Possible applications of biotechnology for the production of human insulin using bacteria, being of fundamental importance for all those sofem diabetes, as previously, insulin was produced only in animals and had an effect as good as human . Another example is in the fabric industry, where there is no research to create a type of cotton that is already naturally colored. This increases the fiber strength, reduces spending for the dyeing and also reduce environmental impacts.
It is also possible to produce plastic by bacteria and can be used for packaging products, for example, and is biodegradable, ie, helps preserve the environment. There is also research to find other ways to generate energy. Materials such as wood, sunflower, corn, soybeans and sugar cane have been used by scientists to produce biofuels that do not harm the environment and are cheaper. In Brazil, are examples of scientific work developed based on the improvement of the biomass of cane sugar, aimed at producing ethanol, saving the environment from further aggravating proportions of pollutants generated by fossil fuels, emitted by industries and automobiles .

resumo de " THE SCIENCE OF SOUND "

The science of sound

The text shows some curiosity about sound and among them are: what is the sound, different types of sound and how we hear sounds. When an object vibrates, it causes the air particles move around rapidly and this creates a chain reaction and it is this kind of chain reaction that generates an energy called sound. The sound is considered a mechanical energy as it propagates through matter in space and depending on the composition of matter the speed of sound in that environment just changing.  when the vibration of air gets in our ears, reverberates in the inner membrane and bones of the ear canal, bringing this information to the brain, and so are able to hear the sounds around and identify all kinds of sounds.
